Break out the pumpkin spice, fall is here! I love this homemade iced pumpkin spiced latte infused with my scratch-made syrup. It’s not too sweet and hits all of those cozy flavor notes. Perfectly refreshing and much more economical than buying from your local coffee shop!
Like so many of you out there, September is the start of my very favorite season! I just love the reprieve from hot temperatures, especially in the morning when it’s nice and cool outside.
We also bring all of our favorite fall recipes back into the rotation, including this homemade pumpkin spice syrup that is simply perfect (in my very biased opinion).
And yes, every coffee shop has a pumpkin flavored drink right now and it’s easy to swing by and have someone else make it for you. But this syrup just hits a little different. It leans on whole spices, fresh aromatics (hi, ginger root!) and real pumpkin pureé to give it a complex flavor (without being sickly sweet) that you just won’t find anywhere else.
Combined with espresso, soy milk and ice and the result is the absolute best iced pumpkin spiced latte you’ve ever had.
Here’s what you need to make it:
Ingredients for the Best Iced Pumpkin Spiced Latte
- Espresso. If you don’t have an espresso machine, use strongly brewed coffee (decaf works!) or this instant espresso.
- Soy milk. Really you can sub any milk here as long as there isn’t any added sugar. You don’t want it overly sweet.
- Pumpkin spice syrup. This recipe continues to stand the test of time. It is just so good. My scratch-made syrup uses whole spices, aromatics and real pumpkin for a bold, complex flavor that is impossible to beat. I promise you’ll be glad you made the extra effort.
Make the syrup on the weekend so you can throw one of these together for an afternoon pick-me-up whenever the craving strikes during the week. It takes all of five minutes to mix up all of the ingredients.
Iced Latte FAQs and Substitutions
Absolutely! To make it hot instead of iced: add syrup and espresso to a mug first and give it a light stir. Heat your milk (bonus points if you have a milk frother at home), then pour over the top. Garnish with a little pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon.
As long as you use a plant-based milk (like soy, almond, oat or coconut), this is a totally vegan recipe.
I calculated one homemade iced pumpkin spiced latte to cost around $0.85. Most coffee shops charge upwards of $6.00 for seasonal drinks so this is a nice savings!
