Whipped Goat Cheese

Filed Under: appetizers, no cook, quick and easy, recipe Written By Leanne October 15, 2024

Whipped goat cheese is a quick and easy appetizer that will wow your guests! It has just six ingredients and a prep time of ten minutes. Everyone will go nuts over this one.

Is it too early to be thinking about holiday menus? Because I certainly can’t get this one out of my mind. Goat cheese and cream cheese are blended together with hot honey and thyme to make an ultra creamy base that’s finished with salted pistachios and dates and I mean COME ON with this one. It’s a stunner, but also so easy for those last minute events.

I shared this recipe on Instagram last November and it was an instant hit. I’m not sure I’ve ever received so many text messages from friends with photos of this goat cheese saying something like, “I made it, and it was the first thing gone”. (I love getting these messages, by the way!)

Just keep this whipped goat cheese recipe bookmarked for the end of the year, all right? I know you’ll have many opportunities to make it, and your friends and family will be better for it.

Ingredients

  • goat cheese
  • cream cheese – be sure to use the block instead of the plastic container
  • hot honey (affiliate link)
  • thyme
  • pistachios (affiliate link)
  • medjool dates
  • optional: flaky salt (affiliate link)
  • crackers for dipping! I recommend a variety: one seedier cracker, different shapes, etc.

How to Whip Goat Cheese

It might be obvious but “whipped” goat cheese essentially just means blending to make it extra smooth. This recipe also calls for cream cheese to add that silky smooth texture. Goat cheese on it’s own can be on the dry side, so this combination is key.

To make whipped goat cheese, add softened (this is important!) cheeses to a food processor with the hot honey and thyme leaves and run until smooth, scraping sides down as needed a few times. You’ll see it go from lumpy to totally smooth in seconds.

After whipping, just spread it on a platter or transfer to a serving bowl and then scatter the pistachios and dates on top. These add a necessary textural component and the flavors really work great together! It’s simply gorgeous.

I also like to garnish with a pinch of flaky salt, more thyme and an extra drizzle of hot honey. Serve with your favorite crackers or bread dippers and you’re off to the races!

FAQs and Substitutions

What if I forget to soften the cheeses?

It will still work! You’ll just have to whip a little longer to get it nice and smooth. If you have time, don’t skip this step because it really helps you achieve the best final product.

I don’t have a food processor, can I still make this?

You can also try a stand mixer or hand mixer (with beaters). If your cheeses are really soft, you can whip by hand with a fork, however it might be hard to get the lumps completely out.

Can I leave out the hot honey?

I wouldn’t recommend leaving it out. The sweetness balances out the richness of the cheese and also loosens everything up a bit. If you can’t find hot honey or it’s too expensive, use regular honey.

Enjoy this one all year around, but it’s definitely most-loved around the holidays. We can’t get enough of this fancy cheese app!

I first made this appetizer last holiday season and brought it back out this year. It’s quite easy to make and really delicious! I served mine with crostini and a random assortment of crackers. Another thing I love about it is that, if you make it once, you basically have all the ingredients to make it a second time. I made it for a party and then had friends stop over the next day. I just bought another block of cream cheese & threw it together again–voila, I was ready for company!

Delicious and easy recipe! The hot honey really makes it so I highly recommend using it. I have made it with dates as written as well as with pomegranate instead of dates and both were delicious

Thanks Sarah – I love the pomegranate riff! I’ll have to try that. I so agree about the hot honey, it’s the best. Thanks for taking the time to leave a rating and review! Hope you are doing well!
